Hair Extensions FAQ
Extensions mount best on hair of 3” or longer. However be prepared for the possibility of individual dreads, curly extensions slipping, usually around the nape of the neck area. On some hairstyles, the shorter the hair the better.
- How long will my extensions last?
Usually depends on the type of hair, length, and how quickly your hair grows. As an average…
- Handmade/Synthetic dreads 3 months
- Curly extensions 2 months
- Loose extensions 3 months
- Foam/Cyber lox 3 months
The Extensions will be tight for the first week or so and may cause reddening and soreness, this will soon ease as the hair grows and the extensions become loser.
- What type of extensions will suit me best?
Every person will be different in what type of extensions will suit them best. For example, people with very thin damaged hair will want to go for a not so heavy on the hair look like curly extensions, as a full head of long dreads maybe too heavy and cause more damage, same goes for people who suffer with migraines or bad neck and back problems.
- Can I wash my extensions?
Yes. You can buy specific products to use with different types of extensions, such as leave in conditioning sprays, which will also help with sore scalps. Wash your hair with luke warm water and diluted shampoos, be sure to wash out any shampoo residue off the scalp, as this will result in itching. Also bear in mind that if you get all your extensions soaking wet, it will be extremely heavy! When blow drying your extensions, you must make sure that you use a low heat setting, because otherwise you risk melting the synthetic hair. Foam, plastic, cyber lox and curly extensions will be fine without being washed, however if you go out on a night out and your hair smells the next day a quick and simple solution is to mix fabric conditioner and warm water in a spray bottle, and lightly mist your hair to diffuse any unpleasant smells.
