Holey Skin Body Piercing Academy
It is with great pleasure that we can announce that the Holey Skin Body Piercing Academy has been launched in direct response to demand from people wishing to embark on a career in the industry.
Courses will run from October 2008 and will be available at Foundation, and Advanced Levels. There will also be a specialist course in Microdermal Anchoring for students who complete the Advanced Course.
In addition to the academy training, each student will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a Senior Body Piercer at one of the 5 Holey Skin Body Art Studios, providing invaluable confidence-building studio experience.
We have gone to great lengths to ensure that our Academy will offer the highest possible levels of professional training in both the theory and practical application of modern body piercing. What makes us different to other courses available is that we believe you should also be taught the realities of working in a studio within the Tattoo and Piercing Industry.
At present many people pay large sums of money to get training and then find that they cannot get a job because they cannot work effectively in a studio environment. We aim to change this.
Foundation Course Profile
Our foundation level course will offer students full training in the basic theory and practical application of Body Piercing and will run for five days. Basic Piercings are defined as any non genital, exotic or implant based procedures. Key areas are as follows:
- Terminology and tools of the trade
- Medical products and applications
- Key legislation, Health and Safety, Risk management and Blood Borne Pathogen control
- Basic anatomy, healing times, after-care and common complications.
- Clinical procedure, Sterilisation and Hygiene compliance
- Jewellery types, measuring, marking, assessing safe depth and placement.
- Practical training in tool handling, jewellery fitting and equipment use.
- In depth visual and practical training relating to customer care, positioning and post piercing care.
- Visual and hands on practical in relation to all basic piercings.
- Actual studio experience assisting and supporting members of the team in a live environment.
Advanced Course Profile
The advanced level course will offer students full training in theory and practical application of genital, exotic and surface piercings and will run over a five day period. This course will also greatly expand on hands on piercing and studio experience. Key areas will be as follows:
- Terminology and specific equipment related to advanced procedures
Anatomy, healing times, after-care and common complications in relation to advanced procedures
- Advanced Blood Borne Pathogen and risk management
- Jewellery types, measuring, marking and safe placement
- Customer care, positioning and post piercing etiquette
- Visual and practical training
- Hands on experience and live studio experience
N.b. Students will be assessed on both practical and theory based ability. Only students that pass the final practical and theory based assessments at the end of the foundation level will be able to enrol for the advanced level.
